Scholars & Imams

Shaykh Haroon Hanif

Born in Liverpool, Shaykh Haroon has studied in Syria under great scholars such as, Shaykh Said Ramadan al-Buti and Shaykh Usama Rifa’i (May Allah have mercy upon them). Additionally, one of Shaykh Haroon’s main teachers is Shaykh Samir an-Nass (May Allah preserve him) who regularly visits the UK.

Shaykh Haroon Hanif began his path of studying Islam almost twenty years ago. His path of learning began with studying with Shaykh Hamza Yusuf in Liverpool who encouraged him to travel. He travelled to France to study Arabic at IESH for one year.

Resident Teacher with Greensville Trust in Liverpool and at Mustafa Mount in Bradford. Shaykh travels across the UK delivering lectures and teaching on various courses in as well as translating a number of traditional Islamic texts into English.

Shaykh Haroon is grounded in various Islamic Sciences, with a particular focus on Hanafi Jurisprudence and Arabic Language. 

Shaykh Hasan Shire

After studying in Tarim for 9 years from the age of 13 to memorise Qur’an and the sacred sciences under Habib Umar bin Hafidh (May Allah preserve him), Shaykh Hasan returned to the UK to teach various Islamic Sciences and resides in London.

Throughout his journey, he coached football to pre-teen children as well as being the founder of a Cooking Club. During his time in Yemen, for a period of 18 months, he was an Apprentice with the local funeral service team who would carry out the required rites and rituals for the deceased.

Back in London, Shaykh Hasan completed his secular studies and founded Light of Felicity, a community organisation. Additionally, he is a chaplain at UCLH where he conducts visitations at the hospital and is the resident Imam for the Friday Prayers there. In this position, he works alongside the Christian and Jewish Chaplains of the hospital.

Shaykh Hasan is also involved in Rafah International Charity Organisation and teaches regularly with many different communities and organisation groups across England. He is also a teacher at New Beginnings – An organisation specialising in the care, support, and education for Converts or those interested in converting to Islam. Shaykh Hasan conducts a weekly show on the radio and discusses spirituality, community issues, and chaplaincy.

Imam Shariq Khan

Imam Shariq has led the Friday Prayers (Jummah) at the Bradford Islamic Community Centre (Ontario, Canada) since 2018. He performs both Islamic marriage ceremonies (nikah) and is a registered Marriage Officiant in the province of Ontario. He also does exclusive personal and marriage counselling, teaches Tafseer, Hadith, Aqidah, Fiqh, and Arabic to adults and children. His commitment to the Islamic sciences began during his years in university when he started studying with local scholars in Toronto. He worked on various educational projects with Shaykh Faraz Rabbani (Seekers Guidance), Shaykh Ramzy Ajem (Masjid Vaughan) and Shaykh Talal Ahdab (Zaytuna College). After earning a Masters of Engineering Science, he travelled throughout the Muslim world seeking sacred knowledge. He was blessed with opportunities to study at various prestigious institutions such as Damascus University in Syria and the University of al-Qarawiyyin in Morocco. He currently works as a Mechanical Engineering Professor at Georgian College.

Imam Shariq has honoured us by delivering the amazing “Muslim Marriage Matters” Workshop in various locations in the UK which has been a huge success as it benefits both singles and couples. He has spent two years developing this unique interactive workshop along with the workbook. We are happy to be working with him to deliver this workshop.

Shaykh Amer Jamil

Shaykh Amer has been described by the Sunday herald as one of the Scotland’s most prominent and respected Muslim thinkers. He holds a (LLB) law degree from Strathclyde university and BA (Hons) in Islamic studies from the University of Wales. He spent 10 years studying the Islamic sciences including 6 years with distinguished scholars in the Middle East (Syria and Yemen), gaining him teaching licenses (ijaza) in various Islamic sciences. His main field of interest is primarily Islamic family law; an area in which he has studied in depth having studied all four schools of Islamic jurisprudence.

Shaykh is a certified NLP practitioner and also holds a certificate in counselling skills which he has combined with his religious and secular knowledge to help contextualise marital issues for the Western Muslim living in the 21st century.

In 2007 he authored the booklet What Islam Really Says About Domestic Abuse, supported by the Scottish Government and Strathclyde Police, in which he helped shatter the myth that Islam allowed domestic abuse. It was translated into 5 languages with 8000 copies distributed to the Police, women’s groups, Social Work and other relevant agencies.

In 2009 he co-founded the Solas Foundation and with his partner Shaykh Ruzwan Muhammad, established the iSyllabus Islamic studies program; a one year comprehensive Islamic studies course. He is currently the project director of the programme.

He is also the Muslim Chaplin at Glasgow Caledonian University, where he delivers the Friday sermon and regular classes for students.

Ustadah Khadijah

Currently residing in Africa and from a Russian (Dagestani Avar) background, Ustadah Khadijah was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. She began her Islamic studies under the tutelage of the local scholars in various Islamic sciences in 2011 before eventually going to the blessed lands of Yemen where she spent five years under the tutelage of Sayyid Habib Umar bin Hafidh gaining permission to teach.

When she returned to the UK at the end of 2017, she began teaching at Madrasa Zia ul Quran in Glasgow’s Southside eventually becoming their project manager for their education programme in 2018.

She has also resumed her Islamic Studies, specialising in Maliki fiqh, Aqeedah and Warsh recitation under the guidance of the Mauritanian scholars.

Ustadah also sits on the Healers Islamic Counselling and Guidance clinic.

Ustadah Aniqa Rashid

Ustadha Aniqa embarked on the journey of establishing Taqwa Institute with the aim of preserving and carrying forward the legacy of her parents. 

Nurturing Hufaadh and Aalimahs: Through her guidance, Ustadha Aniqa has nurtured Hufaadh (those who have memorised the Quran) and Aalimahs (female Islamic scholars), playing a crucial role in the preservation of Islamic knowledge and values.

Instilling Love for Deen: Ustadha Aniqa has instilled a deep love for the Deen (faith) within her students. Her teachings extend beyond religious knowledge, touching the hearts of her students and guiding them on a path of faith and devotion.

Building Strong Islamic Principles: Ustadha Aniqa’s mission is to create a generation of Muslims with strong Islamic principles and unwavering faith. She extends her educational services to all age groups, conducting Quran and Hadith classes for adults. Her commitment to nurturing and educating the next generation is evident in her approach, which encompasses mental health workshops for teens, awareness programs for Islamophobia, and guidance on how to overcome challenges that young Muslims may face in their lives.

Imam Yusuf Tariq

Imam Yusuf completed his Law degree at Liverpool University and simultaneously enrolled on the Micro Madrasa program in Liverpool, taught by Sheikh Ibrahim Osi Efa and Sheikh Haroon Hanif. After returning from Liverpool, he engaged in intensive studies in Arabic and Quran, studying with local scholars including Mufti Liaquat Zaman, Sheikh Muhammad Qamar and Sheikh Abdul Rahim Reasat. He continues his studies with teachers locally and online and is in the process of translating several classical texts for the English speaking population. He also setup Al Minara Foundation, a grassroots community organisation, which seeks to disseminate sound islamic knowledge, connecting the local community to reliable authentic scholars and tackle key community issues.

Ustadah Athea has studied the Islamic Sciences and is a speaker at various events. She provides 1:1 coaching as well as group coaching.

Usman Qureshi

Born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, as a fully qualified practitioner specialising in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Time Techniques, and Aafiyah Healing, which encompasses both Energy and Emotional Healing, Usman brings a wealth of expertise to the realm of holistic well-being.

Over time, he has had the privilege of working with well over 150 clients, employing both in-person and distant healing approaches. These experiences have yielded remarkable results, effectively addressing issues such depression, anxiety, tinnitus suicidal thoughts, bullying, sex addiction, phobias, emotional abuse and other ailments and various types of body aches by identifying their root causes.

Aaminah Basi

Aaminah is a Personal Evolution Coach, NLP Master Practitioner, Trainer, Timeline Resourcing Practitioner, and Hypnotherapist.
Aaminah is dedicated to supporting and guiding sisters who have embraced Islam, helping them navigate the complexities of their new faith and empowering them to flourish in all aspects of life, particularly in the realm of marriage in Islam. I understand this profound transformation’s unique challenges and joys. Tafazal Mohammed

Tafazal is a certified and international award-winning relationship coach who works exclusively with Muslim men.

He has been featured on Islam Channel, British Muslim TV, and is a podcaster on Muslim Men Speak. He was also featured in a mini-video series on relationships with his wife Victoria.

His extensive experience of working within the Muslim community for over 25 years has seen him as a national director, youth leadership trainer and other multiple facilitation roles within Muslim organisations across the United Kingdom. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Community Leadership.

Counsellors

Nadir Khan

Nadir is a Muslim Family & Systemic Psychotherapist and Islamic Psychotherapist in private practice and co facilitator of the DWP religion and spirituality group at the Association of Family Therapy (AFT). He completed his Masters at the Institute of Family Therapy (IFT) where his MSc research was on the systemic training of Muslim leaders and Imams in South London which was published in the Journal of Family Therapy and Family Context magazine. He is currently a doctoral student at the University of Bedfordshire where he is exploring the relationship between Islamic mysticism and systemic theory and practice.

His clinical expertise and experience include working as a family therapist for the NHS, Social Services and Community Mental Health services. In his private practice he offers a unique Islamic approach to systemic, family, couples and individual therapy catering for those who seek to understand themselves and their relationships through the lens of the Islamic tradition, spiritual experience and cultural understanding.

Samina Ali

As a Person-Centred Muslim Counsellor providing a holistic approach in all areas of her services not only for the issues you have presented with but looking at you as a whole.  She takes into consideration your childhood, your family dynamics, your previous traumas, your gender, your health, your current situation and your spiritual state. 

Most of this is explored in the initial consultation where she will then discuss with you about the kind of therapies she can offer you and together you choose some realistic and achievable goals. This is where your journey of healing begins with her.  She will inform you in the consultation if she feels that her services are not appropriate for your requirements and she will try her best to signpost you to what may be a more suitable service for you.

Nadeem Ahmed MBACP (Accred)

Nadeem is an Accredited Integrative Psychotherapist with extensive experience in complex mental health, including work within private healthcare sector, alongside over 13 years of training in Islamic theology, including Usool, Fiqh, Hadith and Tafsir.

He holds an MSc in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT), alongside qualifications in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Hypnotherapy and Person-Centred Counselling.

Combining his deep understanding of Islamic sciences with evidence-based therapeutic methods, Nadeem offers faith-sensitive, culturally aware mental health support tailored to Muslim clients. Specialising in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncture, she provides a comprehensive range of treatments including moxibustion, therapeutic massage, aromatherapy, and cupping therapy.

With over 10 years of expertise as a therapist as well as her experience as a Registered Nurse specialist, Faatimah adopts an integrated approach to healing, prioritising holistic care and wellbeing.
